A 600 sq ft covered porch with ipe decking, a stone fireplace, and integrated lighting — a four-season outdoor room.
The owners wanted an outdoor room they'd actually use from April through October — and into November with the fireplace lit. The porch sits on axis with the rear of the house and extends the stone of the primary living room into the garden.
Ipe decking over a steel-reinforced substructure, a limestone wood-burning fireplace, cedar tongue-and-groove ceiling, and recessed lighting tuned to warm dusk. The roof is structural timber finished to match interior trim.
Built for Indiana winters: full flashing at every intersection with the house, drainage carried away from the foundation, railings detailed to disappear against the landscape.
